A Brief History of the ladies Antique English writing table. Dests first appear in the 17th century [1600’s] as bureaus, i.e. a sloping front desk in which the writing surface can be open and closed. 

The word” desk originated from Modern latin word  ” from mid -14th century. The word desk has been used  figuratively  since 1797. …. This was the first sharp division in desk manufacturing. A one -piece school desk was designed and patented by Anna  Bread in the late 1800s ] This particular small writing desk  is late 1800s.
